Turkish Foreign Minister Says U.S. is negotiating to purchase the "Patriot" missile system

Turkish Foreign Minister Chawush Oulu said on the 1st that Turkey and the United States are negotiating on the purchase of the US-made "Patriot" missile system.

Chahusholu said in an interview with local TV stations that the Turkish side had received a positive response from the US on this military sales case. Turkey has paid attention to prices, delivery time and technology transfer in the negotiations.

He said that Turkey hopes to obtain the "Patriot" missile system, but if the outcome of the negotiations is unfavorable to Turkey, Turkey will have other options.

According to a report by the Anatolian News Agency of Turkey, the US delegation visited the Turkish capital Ankara in early January and held consultations with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense. In the meantime, the US side sold the "Patriot" missile system and officially offered a quotation to the Turkish side.

Due to urgent defense needs, Turkey has always wanted advanced air defense and anti-missile systems. In September 2017, Turkey expressed its intention to purchase the US Patriot missile system and failed to get a positive response.

In December 2017, Turkey and Russia signed a loan agreement for the purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense missile system, marking Turkey's first NATO country to purchase and deploy the Russian air defense missile system. The move sparked dissatisfaction with the US and other NATO allies. The US warned that if Turkey insists on the introduction of the S-400 system, the US will stop selling the "Patriot" missile system to the earth, and the plan to deliver the F-35 fighter to the earth will also be affected.

On February 16 this year, Turkish President Erdogan said that Turkey will continue to implement the agreement to purchase the S-400 air defense missile system. The Turkish side cannot repent. "That is already certain."
