EFCC arraigned Ex-finance commissioner, kwara state , and others for ‘tax evasion ’
According to reports, A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Wednesday remanded ex-finance commissioner in the state, Ademola Banu, in the guardianship of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for supposed tax evasion.
Banu, a specialist, served under previous senator AbdulFatah Ahmed.
The Ilorin zonal office of the counter unite office charged the magistrate nearby Travel Messenger Company Ltd and Mr. Olarewaju Adeniyi on a nine-check charge at the court.
The EFCC affirmed that the litigants plotted among themselves to wash about N411 million having a place with the Kwara State Government.
The charges read: "That you, Olarewaju Adeniyi, Ademola Banu and Travel Messenger Limited among January and December 2018 in Ilorin inside the locale of this noteworthy court plotted among yourselves to submit an offense, to with: transformation of the total of N411,000,000.00 (400 and eleven million naira) just property of Kwara State Government, which aggregate you sensibly should know was gotten from misrepresentation, and accordingly dedicated an offense in spite of Section 18(a) of the tax evasion (restriction) (change) act, 2012 and culpable under Section 15(3) and (4) of a similar demonstration."
The denounced individual argued not liable when the charges were perused to them.
Direction to the EFCC, Nnaemeka Omewa, told the managing judge: "My following the request of not blameworthy entered by the litigants, the indictment will request that this respectable court give a preliminary date to empower us demonstrate our case. Barrier counsel Gboyega Oyewole and Bamidele Ibironke asked the court to concede bail to their customers, contending that the offenses in which the respondents are standing preliminary are bailable.
Indicting counsel in restricting the bail applications, documented a counter-testimony and asked the judge not to acquiesce to the solicitation.
Equity Babagana Ashigar deferred the decision of the application till February 10.
