The death toll from a car bomb attack in the Somali capital rose to 36
Somali police said on the 1st that the death toll of a car bomb attack on the 28th of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, continues to rise and has caused 36 people were killed and 60 injured.
Fornaija was told majority of the deceased were civilians and the police were still searching for missing persons. On the 1st, the government troops broke the siege of the attack on the Mecca hotel and subdued all the suspects involved in the attack.
On February 28th, a truck full of explosives was detonated near the Mecca Hotel, followed by intensive gunfire at the scene of the explosion. The explosion destroyed buildings such as hotels and restaurants in the surrounding area.
The extremist organization Somalia’s “Youth Party” claimed to have created the attack and claimed that the main target of the attack was the Mecca hotel, which often provides accommodation for government officials and businessmen.
The Somalia “Youth Party” is an extremist organization associated with Al Qaeda and has launched terrorist attacks in Somalia and its neighbours in recent years.
